Channa Masala

Channa Masala, also known as Chole Masala is a North Indian dish which has also of late become very popular in the south. The name comes from Chickpeas which is the main ingredient and is called Channa in Hindi. The other ingredients may differ according to the taste of the person preparing it but usually include onions, chopped tomatoes, coriander seeds, garlic, chillies, ginger, dried mango powder, crushed pomegranate seeds and garam masala. The end product is usally dry, spicy and with a citrusy taste. It is consumed along with bhatura or roti items. Some add potatoes into the dish to prepare aloo channa.
